A superfood seed processor was looking for a better way to move hulled seeds from a gravity separator to an overhead hopper feeding an optical color sorter. The product needed to be elevated approximately 15 feet while being distributed evenly across the length of the hopper, all within a facility where floor space is extremely limited.

Traditional incline conveyors weren’t a practical fit for the application. In addition to the space constraints, the delicate seeds required gentle product handling to maintain quality throughout the process.

To solve the problem, Triton Innovation engineered a compact Z-Style Pendulum Bucket Elevator designed specifically for the customer’s elevation requirements. The bucket elevator receives seeds directly from the gravity separator at floor level and vertically conveys the product up and over a mezzanine before discharging into the hopper.

What makes the solution particularly effective is its multiple discharge zones. Three designated tipping points allow the seeds to be distributed evenly throughout the hopper, creating a consistent product layer for the optical color sorter. This more uniform presentation helps improve inspection consistency and sorting accuracy downstream.

Beyond improving process performance, the system was also designed with operator convenience in mind. A hinged inspection window provides clear visibility into product flow while offering easy access for inspection, cleaning, and maintenance. The elevator’s buckets can also be removed individually without tools, simplifying routine cleaning and servicing.

By combining a compact footprint with gentle handling, improved product distribution, and easy access for sanitation, Triton’s Z-Style Bucket Elevator helped the customer optimize their superfood seed sorting operation without sacrificing valuable floor space.
